Google Sites for Teachers

Google Sites can be a powerful way to manage your classroom. From their ease of use to high degree of flexibility, sites provide a great way to keep students informed with current events, download handouts & worksheets, view missed presentations, take quizzes, and so much more. Parents will love how they can stay in touch with teachers and stay in the loop with what is going on in their child’s classroom. And with Page Level Editing, students can join in and be allowed to post content. In this session, participants will be shown the basics of how to start a Google Site, customize its appearance, and populate it with items to help their students access much needed information for the class.

Using Google Drive in the Classroom

One of the Google Apps for Education is Google Drive. Google Drive allows a person to create rich text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, drawings and forms using a dynamic set of online tools. But the real power of Google Drive comes in two forms: Collaboration and Forms. These collaborative features are powerful when used properly. They provide for teacher-student and student-student interaction. Forms lend themselves to creating quick mechanisms to gather information from your students such as reading responses. It could also be a simple “check for understanding” quiz. Again, when combining forms with some simple scripts, the form results can be auto-emailed to you or quizzes can be auto-graded. Google Drive can become a robust tool for teachers. In this session, we’ll just scratch the surface of some ways you can use Google Drive to enhance what you do in your classroom.
